Tutorial: Contrapposto - Hips Don't Lie

Description

I'm totally breaking the continuity of my binge-upload of art from three seasons ago - BUT I couldn't resist, because I'm so excited to bring this to deviantart! :happybounce:

I made this tutorial in response to a conversation I was having with the lovely and kind by DGlapizpincelplumin - check out his stuff! He draws cool dragons :D (Big Grin)
We were talking about ways to make characters look less rigid, and I searched deviantart for a tutorial like this one, but couldn't actually find any. This is an old trick my mother taught me, and that she learned from an art professor in college.

The concept is not mine, its simply physics, but the drawings all are, so no stealing!

Thank you very much~ La la la la

//EDIT: I figured out the official name for this art technique: Contrapposto. If you look it up on the internet, you'll get a lot of Greek sculptures, because they're the ones who really introduced it into the art world in a big way!

Thanks for this tutorial! It´s very clear. Sometimes, I prefer action poses because the rhythm emerges naturally (dancing, fighting, etc) It´s the same with the faces, an exaggerated expression like shouting, crying or surprise is easier to get it right than a peaceful, dreaming or grateful. These little tips makes the difference. Thanks again for share.
